Privacy Policy
Effective 8 November 2026
The short version. The full policy below is what counts.
- We collect what Reunyt needs to work: your email, a display name, your reports, claims and messages, and where things were lost or found.
- Other people only ever see an approximate area about 500 m across, never the exact spot.
- Document and card numbers are never shown to anyone. They are only used to find an exact match.
- Voice input is turned into text on your phone. The audio never leaves it.
- We don't sell your information, show ads or track you across other apps.
- You can delete your account in the app at any time.
1. Who we are
Reunyt is operated by Edge Technology Solutions (Pty) Ltd, a company registered in Namibia ("we", "us" or "our"). We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy. It applies to the Reunyt app and the website at reunyt.com, and should be read with our Terms of Use.
2. What we collect
Information you give us
- Account: your email address, your password (stored only in scrambled, hashed form, so nobody can read it), your display name, the profile icon you choose, and when you accepted our Terms.
- Reports: whether you lost or found something, its category, title, description and date, and where it happened. Each report also gets a reference number that only you see.
- Location of a report: the exact point you choose (your current location, a pin on the map or a place you search for), how you chose it and, for a GPS reading, its accuracy. We publish only the approximate area. The exact point is kept in a locked part of our database that no user can read.
- Document and card details: for ID documents, the document type, issuing country and number. For bank cards, only the last 4 digits and the surname on the card, never the full card number. These are kept in a locked part of our database and are only used to find an exact match between a lost and a found report.
- Claims and messages: your answers to a finder's questions, any note you add, messages between a finder and an owner after a claim is accepted, the handover point you choose, and whether a handover code was used.
- Hand-ins and thanks: where and when a found item was handed in, whether the owner collected it or found it wasn't there, and any thank-you note.
- Safety: reports you make about other users or content (the reason, any note, and a copy of what you reported), people you block, and our decisions on reports.
- Settings: your alert radius for nearby matches. Other defaults, such as where Browse starts, stay on your phone.
- Messages to us: anything you send us, for example by email.
Information collected automatically
- Notifications: if you allow notifications, your phone's push notification token, so we can send you alerts.
- Technical logs: our hosting provider keeps server logs, such as IP addresses and the times of requests, for security and troubleshooting.
What we don't collect
We don't use advertising, we don't track you across other apps or websites, and there are no analytics or advertising tools in the app. We don't access your contacts or your photo library.
3. Phone permissions
Reunyt only asks for a permission when you use the feature that needs it. You can change any of these at any time in your phone's Settings.
| Permission | What it's used for |
|---|---|
| Location (while using the app) | To place a report where you are, to search near you, and to show the nearest hand-in points first. Your current position is used for the search and is not stored, unless you choose it as the place of a report. |
| Camera | Only to scan the owner's handover code when you give back something you found. Nothing is recorded or kept. |
| Microphone and speech recognition | So you can speak instead of type. Your words are turned into text on your phone. No audio leaves your phone. |
| Notifications | To tell you about possible matches, claims, messages and items handed in. Notifications never contain item details, names or locations. |
4. How we use it
We use your information to:
- create and run your account, and keep you signed in;
- show reports and find possible and exact matches between lost and found items;
- let finders and owners claim, message and arrange handovers, and show where handed-in items are;
- send you notifications you have allowed;
- keep Reunyt safe: review reports of abuse, block, hide or remove content and accounts, filter offensive words, limit misuse such as fake or repeated posts, and prevent fraud;
- answer your questions and support requests;
- fix problems and improve Reunyt;
- meet our legal obligations and protect our rights and the rights of others.
We only use your information for these purposes. We don't use it for advertising or sell it to anyone.
5. Who can see what
| Who | What they see |
|---|---|
| Other Reunyt users | Your display name and profile icon, and your reports' category, title, description and date, with only an approximate area about 500 m across and a rounded distance. Never your email, the exact location, a document or card number, or your reference numbers. |
| A finder whose item you claim | Your display name, your answers to their questions and your note. |
| The other person, after a claim is accepted | The messages you send each other and the handover point you choose. |
| The owner of a handed-in ID or bank card | Where and when it was handed in, if their lost report matches it. The finder's name is not shown. |
| A finder you thank | Your note, shown as from "the owner", not with your name. |
| Someone you block | They are not told that you blocked them. |
| Someone you report | They are not told who reported them. |
6. Who we share it with
We don't sell or rent your personal information. We share it only as follows:
- Service providers who run parts of Reunyt for us and may only use your information to do so:
- Supabase, for our database, sign-in and server functions;
- Apple, to deliver push notifications and for map place search (searches you type are sent to Apple Maps);
- Resend, to deliver emails: the confirmation email you get when you sign up, and abuse reports sent to us.
- Authorities: the police or other authorities, when the law requires it, or when we believe in good faith that it is needed to protect someone's safety or to prevent or investigate fraud or crime.
- A new owner: if Reunyt or Edge Technology Solutions is sold, merged or restructured, your information may pass to the new owner, who must protect it as this policy describes. We will tell you if this happens.
- With your agreement: in any other case where you ask us to or agree.
7. Where it is stored
Our database is hosted by Supabase in the European Union (Ireland). Some of our service providers process information in other countries, including the United States. This means your information is stored and processed outside Namibia. We choose providers that protect information to a high standard, and we only share what each needs.
8. How long we keep it
| Information | How long |
|---|---|
| Your account, profile, settings and reports, including closed ones | Until you delete your account |
| Messages and handover codes for a claim | Deleted 90 days after the claim closes |
| Reports of abuse | Deleted 90 days after we review them |
| Records of notifications sent | Deleted after 30 days |
| Push notification tokens | Until you sign out on that phone or delete your account |
| Server logs | For a short period set by our hosting provider |
When you delete your account
You can delete your account in the app's settings. It takes effect straight away.
- Deleted at once: your account, email, profile, settings, push tokens, thank-you notes, your lost reports with their exact locations and document numbers, and the exact locations of your finds.
- Kept without your name for up to 90 days: found items you handed in that haven't been collected yet, so their owners can still find and collect them; your closed claims and finds; and messages you sent, which stay with the other person marked as from "Deleted account". After 90 days these are deleted too.
- Reports of abuse: reports you made are deleted with your account. Reports other people made about you are kept, without a link to your account, until we review them and for 90 days after, so we can deal with safety issues.
We may keep information longer where the law requires it, or where it is needed to deal with a legal claim or a safety or fraud investigation.
9. How we protect it
- Everything sent between the app and our servers is encrypted.
- Our hosting provider encrypts stored data.
- Rules inside our database decide who can read each piece of information, so the app can't be used to read anything you aren't allowed to see. Exact locations and document numbers can't be read by any user at all.
- Only a small number of people at Edge Technology Solutions can access personal information, and only to run, support and protect Reunyt.
No system is completely secure. If we become aware of a breach that affects your information, we will tell you without undue delay where the law requires it or where it could put you at risk.
10. Your choices and rights
You can:
- change your display name and profile icon, and close or renew your reports, in the app;
- delete your account in the app at any time;
- turn off location, camera, microphone and notification permissions in your phone's Settings;
- ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct information that is wrong, or to delete information we don't need to keep;
- object to how we use your information, or ask us to limit it.
To make a request, email reunyt@edge.com.na from the email address on your account. We may need to confirm it's you, and we will reply within 30 days.
We respect the right to privacy in Article 13 of the Namibian Constitution. When Namibia's data protection law comes into force, we will follow it and update this policy. If you are unhappy with how we handled your information, please contact us first so we can try to put it right.
11. Children
You must be at least 13 years old to use Reunyt. If you are under 18, your parent or guardian must agree to our Terms on your behalf. If we learn that someone under 13 has an account, we will delete it. Parents or guardians who think their child has given us information can contact us.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
